Introduction to Sinner’s Prayer

HELP BEING A SOUL-WINNER
For any believer who may not have ever received any guidance on presenting the gospel to an unbeliever, the following outline is presented.
1. SHOW THE SINNER IT IS POSSIBLE TO KNOW THAT HE HAS ETERNAL LIFE. Read 1 Jn. 5:13.
Tell him that there are basically four things that he must accept in order to get that assurance. Then show him the following four facts:
2. SHOW HIM THAT HE IS A SINNER. Read Rom. 3:23.
3. SHOW HIM THAT HE DESERVES DEATH, INCLUDING BOTH PHYSICAL DEATH AND ETERNAL TORMENT IN THE LAKE OF FIRE, WHICH IS THE SECOND DEATH. Read Rom. 6:23 and Rev. 20:14,15.
4. SHOW HIM WHAT GOD HAS DONE TO PROVIDE SALVATION FOR HIM. Read 1 Cor. 15:3,4. This is the most important part. Explain clearly what the expression, “Christ died for our sins,” means. You might use Isa. 53:6, illustrating the substitutionary death of Christ “according to the scriptures” (the Old Testament being the scriptures referred to by Paul).
5. SHOW HIM HOW HE MUST RESPOND TO THE OFFER OF SALVATION. Read Rom. 6:23b. The gift must be received. Read Acts 16:29-31. Explain that believing on Christ is not just acknowledging that the events really happened, but rather that it is TRUSTING His substitutionary death, burial, and resurrection for his salvation.
6. BOW FOR PRAYER. Ask God to speak to his heart. With heads bowed, ask the sinner to trust Christ from his heart. As he does so, ask him to take your hand as an indication. Remind him that he is taking your hand for your sake alone, and that it has nothing to do with his salvation. If he takes your hand, thank God for his conversion.
7. CHECK HIM FOR ASSURANCE. Read Jn. 3:36. Ask him if he is now believing on the Son. If he says, “Yes,” point to the text and ask him what THE BIBLE says he has. Once he reads out loud, “eternal life,” point out to him that YOU did not tell him that; GOD’S WORD told him.
8. URGE HIM TO CONFESS CHRIST BEFORE OTHERS (not in order to be saved, but because he is saved). Read Rom. 10:11. Explain “the invitation” at the end of the sermon. Offer to pick him up for the next service.

If you understand that you are a sinner and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ, here is a sinner’s prayer you can pray to God:
“God, I know that I am a sinner and have lived apart for you. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and choose to avoid sin. I believe that His pain, death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. I believe that His blood being shed has washed ALL my sins away! God, you have waited patiently for me, and I acknowledge today my need for you. I now know, that I know, that I know that you Love Me. From this day forward I am forgiven, I invite the Holy Spirit to help me understand your Word of God, and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! I now choose to do Your will in my life. I prayerfully live in the power of Jesus’ name. Amen!”

Welcome to God’s family. Now, as a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.
” Get baptized as commanded by Christ.
” Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ.
” Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
” Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
” Find a local church where you can worship God.

On this day...
