Ryle\u2019s Favorite Hymn: Rock of Ages<\/p>\n<p>According to Ryle\u2019s biographers, Peter Toon and Michael Smout, J.C. Ryle\u2019s favorite hymn was \u201cRock of Ages\u201d, a hymn composed by Augustus M. Toplady, an Anglican clergyman and hymn-writer, in 1775. This hymn was also sung at Ryle\u2019s funeral. Rock of Ages, cleft for me,<\/p>\n<p>let me hide myself in thee;<\/p>\n<p>let the water and the blood,<\/p>\n<p>from thy wounded side which flowed,<\/p>\n<p>be of sin the double cure;<\/p>\n<p>save from wrath and make me pure.<\/p>\n<p>_____<\/p>\n<p>2.
