Even that former sense of discord and protest in which the<br \/>\nright always appeared on God&#8217;s side, had only served to lay bare the ultimate rock where his soul was<br \/>\nanchored with unbreakable chains to Jehovah. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The great expostulators in the annals of faith have<br \/>\nfrequently been likewise the closest intimates of God&#8217;s confidence. Here lies the birthplace of that<br \/>\nheroism of religion by which some were enabled momentarily to rise above self-interest and self-safety<br \/>\nin the simple satisfaction of having and knowing God Himself.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> Here lies the explanation of the<br \/>\noutcry of Job, &#8220;Though he slay me yet will I hope in him&#8221;  (13:15), and of the avowal of Habakkuk,<br \/>\n&#8220;Though the fig-tree shall not flourish, neither shall fruit be in the vines, though the labor of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no food, the flocks shall be cut off from the folds, and there<br \/>\nshall be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in Jehovah&#8221;  (3:17, 18). <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Let us never forget it: whoever<br \/>\ncuts out the redemptive heart from our religion not only bars the one road of escape, but he also<br \/>\nbars us from the purest reaches of religious delight itself.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> The piety of redemption is the consummate<br \/>\nflower of the fear of God in Old and New Testaments alike.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this point again Jeremiah&#8217;s personal experience proved a typical forecast of Israel&#8217;s future enjoyment of God.
