{"id":4922,"date":"2009-12-03T23:32:20","date_gmt":"2009-12-04T04:32:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.purposedriven.ca\/wiki\/?p=4922"},"modified":"2009-12-05T14:37:21","modified_gmt":"2009-12-05T19:37:21","slug":"40days-day3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/purposedriven.ca\/wiki\/2009\/12\/03\/40days-day3\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 3 &#8211; God&#8217;s Covenant With Abraham &#8211; Genesis 15; 17:15-27"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>English Standard Version<\/h2>\n<h1>DAY THREE<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Genesis 15 &#8211; Morning<\/strong><br \/>\nGen 15:1  After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: &#8220;Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 15:2  But Abram said, &#8220;O Lord GOD, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 15:3  And Abram said, &#8220;Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 15:4  And behold, the word of the LORD came to him: &#8220;This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir.&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 15:5  And he brought him outside and said, &#8220;Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.&#8221; Then he said to him, &#8220;So shall your offspring be.&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 15:6  And he believed the LORD, and he counted it to him as righteousness.<br \/>\nGen 15:7  And he said to him, &#8220;I am the LORD who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 15:8  But he said, &#8220;O Lord GOD, how am I to know that I shall possess it?&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 15:9  He said to him, &#8220;Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 15:10  And he brought him all these, cut them in half, and laid each half over against the other. But he did not cut the birds in half.<br \/>\nGen 15:11  And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.<br \/>\nGen 15:12  As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him.<br \/>\nGen 15:13  Then the LORD said to Abram, &#8220;Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years.<br \/>\nGen 15:14  But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions.<br \/>\nGen 15:15  As for yourself, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.<br \/>\nGen 15:16  And they shall come back here in the fourth generation, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 15:17  When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.<br \/>\nGen 15:18  On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, &#8220;To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates,<br \/>\nGen 15:19  the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,<br \/>\nGen 15:20  the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,<br \/>\nGen 15:21  the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites.&#8221;<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nGenesis 17:15-27 &#8211; Evening<\/strong><br \/>\nGen 17:15  And God said to Abraham, &#8220;As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name.<br \/>\nGen 17:16  I will bless her, and moreover, I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she shall become nations; kings of peoples shall come from her.&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 17:17  Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said to himself, &#8220;Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 17:18  And Abraham said to God, &#8220;Oh that Ishmael might live before you!&#8221;<br \/>\nGen 17:19  God said, &#8220;No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.<br \/>\nGen 17:20  As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly.
