Our mission is limited to those whom the Father has given us to minister to

Jesus has perfected the work given to Him to do (John 17:4)(John 17:6). This perfection of work is identified with the annunciation of the name of God to the disciples: I have manifested thy name (John 17:6).

His mission is limited to those whom the Father has given Him.

Joh 17:4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.

— We are all called to public ministry.

Joh 17:6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.

— God’s gift is that we would minister in this world, calling all that are His elect by His Word and to keep His Word as sacred.

Joh 17:9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.

— Specific prayers for the lost to be called to repentance. Intercession for all saints called by the Father.

Joh 17:12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

— Ministry on a continual basis to endure until the end, persevering with elected saints, guarding our faith together and remaining steadfast together in unity.

Joh 17:20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,

— Through all years of Christian legacy and heritage remaining true to God’s Word and proclaiming the call for God’s elect to faith in Jesus. Remembering that generations before and after our own make up the whole picture of God’s redemptive plan to overcome sin and glorify Himself in Jesus Christ.

Joh 17:26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

Christ is our example of God’s love toward us. In thankfulness we glorify the Father by loving and proclaiming Jesus Christ as our only Saviour.

On this day...

  1. His mission is limited to those whom the Father has given Him.
